We don't have to have our lives figured out: Putting our lives together, one piece at a time

“If you can add a little piece of enjoyment to your life each day, days go by and you realize you’re piecing together a life you love.”

Social media has a way of making life appear perfect, like everything is flawless, and put together.

It also has a way of making life seem like it can change overnight. Six-figure businesses seem like they pop up in a day, along with perfect bodies and accomplishments.

We don’t have to know where we will be in 5 years or what we want to be when we grow up. My dad, who is retired, is still trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. But if we can piece together the parts of life that light our souls on fire, like a puzzle, we slowly start to see, create, and live a life we enjoy. Day by day, we keep the big picture in mind, the picture we are trying to build with the puzzle. And each day we add a piece that makes us excited—coffee in the morning, walking by your favorite lake, drawing or writing, learning about topics you enjoy.

Life doesn’t manifest overnight. It’s all about piecing together the puzzle. We don’t always know what the picture of the puzzle will be. Sometimes we think we know but there are surprises in the details. But when we find the pieces, the critical parts of life that we value, we can continue to add pieces to our life that make us excited. And if we can be a little more excited each day, that’s a life worth living. And that’s perhaps the grandest puzzle that was ever created.
